As part of the launch of its Revue N°4 on the theme of glass, ARCHIK presents an exhibition as a tribute to this timeless, malleable and infinitely reusable material, which has been present in architecture and design for decades.

Atelier George

Atelier George is a duo composed of Eve George and Laurent Fichot, designers and glassblowers. In their workshop, they work together from design to manufacture. Their work includes lighting, tableware and wall tiles, all created using molten glass techniques. Each object of the Atelier is unique: thanks to the mastery of glass blowing, the objects are never reproduced identically.

This exhibition highlights the co-creation of the TANGO edition. ARCHIK invited Atelier George to create a scenography illustrating the glassblowing technique through its new edition as well as a selection of pieces from its collections. The TANGO edition is displayed on a black table with bluish reflections by designer Xavier Montoy. An Arc chair by Pascal Mourgue invites you to sit down. Behind it, a wall weaving by Léa Parraguin echoes the shades of blue of the lights and vases from the Atelier George collections.

Garnier & Linker

The strength of the design duo Guillaume Garnier & Florent Linker lies in their ability to enhance forgotten techniques and to constantly renew their application and aesthetics. This strength also resides in the creative method they have put in place: a hybrid process that borrows as much from design as from craftsmanship and sculpture, and that comes to life between the studio and the workshop.

The Garnier & Linker collection was born of experiments with ancestral materials and know-how. Alabaster, obsidian, volcanic stone, bronze, plaster and solid cast glass: all materials reinterpreted in a contemporary language. Each model is handmade by French master craftsmen.

As part of the launch of its Revue N°4 on the theme of glass, ARCHIK presents an exhibition as a tribute to this timeless, malleable and infinitely reusable material, which has been present in architecture and design for decades.

This exhibition highlights the co-creation of the TANGO edition. ARCHIK has given Atelier George carte blanche to create a scenography illustrating the blown glass technique through the production of the TANGO edition and the cast glass alongside a selection of pieces from its “Cime” collection.

The TANGO edition is displayed among the laser-cut poplar moulds used to create the fluted decoration of each element of this nomadic set. It consists of a carafe and two glasses that fit together like Russian dolls to create a sculptural totem.

On the other side, an extract from the “Cime” collection by Atelier George. The pieces were created by taking impressions of plants in molten glass. Cradled by the planet’s vibrations, this line encapsulates traces of the surrounding plant world. They light up, rest or cling.

Atelier George

Atelier George is a duo composed of Eve George and Laurent Fichot, designers and glassblowers.

After studying at the Ecole Boulle, then at the ENSCI in Paris, Eve specialised in glass. She joined the CERFAV – Centre Européen de Recherche et de Formation aux Arts Verrier – and became a Compagnon Verrier. For his part, Laurent, who comes from a family of ceramists, benefited from training from an early age.

Laurent, for his part, studied art throwing and cane blowing, and then became a professional in fine houses such as Cristalleries Saint-Louis or Lalique, and in artisanal workshops such as Biot. He joined the Centre International d’Art Verrier (Meisenthal) where he made custom-made pieces for designers and artists.

At Atelier George, they work together from design to production. Their work includes lighting, tableware and wall tiles, all made using molten glass techniques. Each object in the Atelier is unique: thanks to the mastery of glass blowing, the objects are never reproduced identically.

Opaline globes, wooden moulds and broken glass make up this scenography inspired by a glassblower’s workshop.

“FOLLE ENVIE” Studio MARCEL POULAIN X Relax Factory

January 2022 – May 2022

For this occasion Clémence Plumelet and Geoffrey Pascal present in the former bishopric of Toulon “The dried out case of a pool from another time that gives way to a stay where relaxation is the key word. Between memories of the Riviera of yesterday and the projection of an idealized villa, where the languor of a steamy afternoon invites you to take refuge in this sunny pool with floating furniture lined with sponge. The Mediterranean, like a spring promise of warmth and light where water is only a suggestion.

Discover this poetic space that invites you to disconnect, a refuge that fulfills the function of a lounge-bar where the world of games is evoked by the terrycloth backgammon board. Guess the references to Jacques Deray’s La Piscine, where we discovered the superbly designed Gae Aulenti garden furniture. A unique creation deploying a total approach: light, sound and smell to live an immersive design experience.

Maxence Moutte and Givaudan will intoxicate you with their “Winter Sun” fragrance created for the occasion: “The freshness of sage and rosemary from the garrigue infused in a liqueur of plum, orgeat syrup and bourbon for a cocktail with a languid warmth like a winter afternoon sun in the Mediterranean.”

The evening was in full swing thanks to L’idéal and its delicious Mediterranean buffet with products selected with heart, thanks to the Manguin Distillery and its olive-based cocktail and to Roxane our bar-made of the evening.

Studio MARCEL POULAIN

Clémence Plumelet graduated from Duperré school in textile design, leaves for the Netherlands in 2015 to join the prestigious Design Academy of Eindhoven where she meets Geoffrey Pascal.

Together they founded the MARCEL POULAIN Studio which combines their desires to preserve artisanal and industrial know-how as object and textile designers. Each project is initiated by the search for a scenario that echoes memories of the collective memory, on which is grafted a material, then a form, and finally the case to accommodate them.

The initial story guides them throughout this process to create a discussion between the place and the objects that animate it in a multisensory approach.

Relax Factory

Fascinated by 50’s and 60’s design, Jean-Baptiste Moutte puts his talent and his requirement for the revival of old furniture.

A meticulous and perfectionist upholsterer, he has been giving a second life to vintage furniture since 2007 in the Relax Factory workshop. With the taste of beautiful things, defended since his beginnings, he revisits the classics in a clever mix of textures, colors and materials down to the smallest detail, in an approach of quality and durability.

Antique dealers, collectors, amateurs and institutions call upon his know-how and his precision to take care of their piece, or for an accompaniment for their project, such as the Villa Noailles, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris or the Twenty First Gallery in New York…

As part of the launch of its REVUE N°3, ARCHIK presents this autumn 2021 ``Autrement``, an exhibition dedicated to eco-responsible design, revealing the work of innovative and committed designers. In Marseille, Dimitri Felouzis unveils ``Grume``, his minimalist and upcycled furniture collection

Each year, ARCHIK shares its vision of the city, architecture, crafts and design in its REVUE. This year’s edition, No. 3, is dedicated to the theme of “Paris Autrement”, a world away from a Paris of light, and aims to help you discover initiatives, places and actors who contribute to raising awareness and responding to current ecological issues.

On this occasion ARCHIK has decided to highlight the work of two committed designers who question traditional modes of consumption and manufacture through the use of discarded materials and a global eco-responsible approach.

In Marseille, Dimitri Felouzis, architect and designer, unveils “Grume”, his exclusive collection of furniture made from reused wood, in a natural scenography that evokes the cycle of matter.

Using wood frames and pieces sourced within a 30 km area around his workshop in Montpellier, the designer creates chairs, benches and stools that are both minimalist and contemporary. The amount of energy needed to transform the wood is optimised and the hand tool is favoured. A second life is thus given to the material, whose traces of the past are deliberately left visible to indicate its origin.

Dimitri Felouzis

Dimitri Felouzis is an HMONP architect and designer. He focuses his practice on the small scale: from the manufacture of single pieces to the renovation of old buildings, through the creation of dwellings in harmony with their environment. Attached to local resources and vernacular know-how for their intelligence, his work explores the ecological dimension of the material to rethink everyday space as close as possible to those who live in it.

The Grume seats tell the story of the variations of the material, expressing its entire life cycle. They are also a commitment to a localized and resilient craft against the current modes of overproduction.

PARIS DESIGN WEEK

9th – 18th  September 2021

ARCHIK loves architecture, art and design. And so it is only natural that it should join the Marais path of Paris Design Week PDW21, from 9th to 18th September 2021.

An open-air show created in 2011 by Maison&Objet, Paris Design Week has become a must-attend event for the general public, design experts and professionals. For 9 days, a selection of galleries, museums and emblematic brands offer ephemeral exhibitions, openings and meetings around design.

From 9th to 18th September 2021, our Maison ARCHIK Paris opens its doors to the public, highlighting the work of 5 young designers, all winners of the Design Parade Hyères.
The exhibition “Echoes”, organised in partnership with the Villa Noailles, the Cirva and the Musée Borély in Marseille, presents sculptures, creative research and everyday objects by designers Samy Rio, Pernelle Poyet, Julie Richoz, Sara de Campos and Carolien Niebling.

Each object presented is a bridge between ideas, know-how and worlds. Design becomes a bridge between tradition and modernity, form and colour, drawing and volume.

The Designers

Pernelle Poyet
Through her Autels Particuliers, Pernelle Poyet questions the evocative power of objects. Her sculptures, creative experiments inspired by the religious and the play of light and shadow, seek to transcribe elements of drawing into volume.

Julie Richoz
How can design and its production techniques translate the finesse and nuances of a drawing? To what extent can they take a new look at an age-old skill? This is the bridge that Julie Richoz has chosen to explore: her Giro ceramics made in Fez with the publisher Trame are the fruit of an enchanting balance between modern vision and traditional craft.

Samy Rio
Samy Rio is also committed to using design as a mouthpiece for know-how. With his Dota walker, published by ARCHIK, he confronts bamboo and anodised aluminium, in other words tradition and modernity. The bamboo is worked by hand until it becomes a perfect tube, giving the piece a contemporary look, and underlining the precision of the manual work and the potential of a natural and ecological material.

Sara de Campos
This deep concern for detail, durability and functionality is also found in Sara de Campos. Since Lisbon, the designer has been developing a series of objects and furniture that demonstrate a sensitive approach to materials and a minimalism that reveals the intrinsic beauty of the material.

Carolien Niebling
In another register, Carolien Niebling uses design to unite the fields of science and food. Her book “The Sausage of the Future” questions the techniques used to produce sausages, which are often equated with junk food, and imagines new future potentials for them, more consistent with a sustainable food culture.

In collaboration with the Villa Noailles, the Cirva and the Château Borély, ARCHIK presents this summer 2021 'Echoes', an exhibition dedicated to a new generation of designers, all winners of the grand prize of the Design Parade Hyères.

While “Souffles”, the twin exhibition hosted by the Château Borély, focuses on the work of these designers at the Cirva around the material of glass, ARCHIK has chosen to present a set of pieces with a plural vocabulary in response to this research.

In a fresh scenography, the objects imagined by Pernelle Poyet, Samy Rio, Julie Richoz, Carolien Niebling and Sara de Campos, answer each other and lead us in a joyful wandering between plastic experiments and detour of traditional craft production techniques.

Whether it’s lighting, furniture, books or tableware, each object presented testifies to the designers’ desire to build bridges between ideas, between know-how, between worlds. Design as a bridge, as a language, as an echo. Echo between tradition and modernity, between form and color, drawing and volume.

The Designers

Through her Autels Particuliers, Pernelle Poyet questions the evocative power of objects. Her sculptures, creative experiments inspired by the religious and the play of light and shadow, seek to transcribe into volume elements of the drawing.

A deep concern for detail, durability and functionality is also found in the work of Sara de Campos, who since Lisbon has been developing a series of objects and furniture that show a sensitive approach to materials, minimalism that allows each time to reveal the intrinsic beauty of the material.

In another register, Carolien Niebling uses design to unite the fields of science and food. TAL I KANN DESIGN

November – February 2020

Kann Design invests our Marseilles showcase with its TAL chair signed by Leonard Kadid which is enthroned in our holiday scenography.

Leonard Kadid is an architect and product designer based in Paris. From object to architecture, his studio’s work focuses on structural and material experimentation to explore the intrinsic characteristics of materials.

This exhibition highlights the co-creation of the TAL chair, between the designer and the furniture brand. ARCHIK invited the designer to imagine a scenography that reveals itself as a space of reflection around the design, with the different elements of the chair displayed on the walls.

Kann Design

Founded in Lebanon in 1958 by Kanaan, a renowned carpenter and father of Houssam Kanaan – founder of KANN Design, the Kanaan workshop is the pillar of the KANN Design project.

Having been immersed in furniture since his childhood, Houssam draws inspiration from and relies on the expertise and know-how of the experienced craftsmen who make up the brand’s heritage. Cabinetmakers, welders, upholsterers, painters and canners, most of whom have been with the company since its inception, work passionately, hand in hand, with a concern for creativity, quality and a deep sense of detail.

With this collective of craftsmen, KANN edits and concretizes the ideas and drawings of designers by making timeless furniture, technically irreproachable, and with absolute comfort.

With the taste for beautiful things, defended since its beginnings, KANN Design signs total and made-to-measure realizations, thought in the slightest details and in an always more sustainable approach.

The craft is honored in this scenography dressed in a leafy shade, highlighting the simple and contemporary curves of the TAL chair.

Paradis perdus I Margaux Keller

``True paradises are the paradises we have lost`` said Marcel Proust in his book Le temps retrouvé.

This is the quote that inspired the Marseille-based designer Margaux Keller for the fourth collection of her eponymous furniture brand.

“This new series is a parade, an imaginary world that seems familiar: a country house in Provence, an orangery, an oasis of wonders, a magnified childhood memory. Open your eyes wide, remember the sweet scent of orange blossoms…”. These are the memories and precious feelings that guided Margaux Keller in the creation of each piece of this very personal collection.

The designer thus highlights her desire to work with artisans who are sensitive to materials and to the emotional dimension that everyday objects provide. A poetry of materials, senses, shapes and lights that allows a sensitive and unique escape.

Margaux Keller

After training at Olivier de Serres, she joined the Ecole Boulle in Paris, from which she graduated in 2010 with honors. Margaux Keller then trained at the Philippe Starck agency, alongside Eugeni Quitllet. In 2011, she was selected to be part of the design team of Fabrica, the Benetton group’s communication research center.
But strong of her attachment to her native city, Marseille, she feels the call of the South. And decided in 2012 to create her own global design agency there, developing a wide range of partnerships with Yves Saint-Laurent Beauté, Bibelo, Roche Bobois, Cartier, Made.com, La Redoute Intérieurs, Habitat, SIA Home Fashion and La Monnaie de Paris. In 2019, she founded her own publishing house Margaux Keller Collections, in association with Anaïs Fretigny.

A publishing house that offers series of furniture and objects in limited edition, made locally by craftsmen with exceptional know-how.

Carnations | Caroline Venet

2021

Carnations' is a research work mixing leather and recycled porcelain clay.

This is a limited series of objects and furniture for the home, unique pieces handmade in France, made in collaboration with the ceramist Fanny Richard, the leather worker Aurélie Chadaine, and the tile factory Normandy Ceramics.

The leather scraps, end of series or rejects from the fashion industry, are collected to be revalorized, sublimated by their asperities, irregularities of the skin, scars, natural wrinkles or veins, which make the uniqueness of each object. It is a meeting of materials and know-how, between the suppleness of a leather skin and the velvetiness of hard porcelain or enamelled stoneware.

In order to perpetuate Studiofoam’s enchanting universe, and still in the logic of offering a global product, we have co-published ONDE(S), a limited edition luminous suspension.

Caroline Venet

Caroline Venet created Studiofoam in 2017, which she conceives as a research laboratory. Through this design studio, Caroline proposes a unique interpretation of materials, questions manufacturing techniques and processes, between innovation and traditional know-how. The designer explores the boundaries between art, craft and design. She develops a multiple approach, from experimentation to installation, from material and surface design to product design, set design, scenography and art direction.

It is a meeting of materials and know-how, between the suppleness of a leather skin and the velvetiness of hard porcelain or glazed stoneware.

TUBULURE

Septembre – Décembre 2020

Winner of the first edition of the Pli PublicWorkshop, the BehaghelFoiny studio was offered the opportunity to exhibit its colorful pieces at the Maison ARCHIK Marseille.

Their work revolves around a flexible aluminum tube, which they twist and untwist to draw the object in space. To reinforce the silhouette, they then cover it with plaster, fiberglass and resin as needed. The solidified object is then covered with a tinted coating, applied with a knife like an exaggerated textured plaster.

The detour by hand then reveals the alternative potentials of industrial tools. Without reducing materials to their conventional functions, Antoine and Alexis consider them with a primitive eye as raw resources to manipulate. “Tubulure” tends towards a new type of craftsmanship that would mutiny a production system dependent on heavy industry and a standardization of tastes.

Studio BehaghelFoiny

The duo, composed of designers Alexis Foiny and Antoine Behaghel, conceives a new typology of furniture in the form of transitory objects. Starting from the premise that the domestic universe to which we have access in the large distributors seems sometimes stuck in prefabricated and standardized representations, they propose an alternative domestic universe. Also qualified as a laboratory, the design studio multiplies the experiments in an exhaustive way, in the form of an inventory.

A primitive look at the material.
In the midst of industrial resources, they have developed an ability to produce furniture in an absolutely autonomous, and “neo-prehistoric” way.

Façonner l’imaginaire | Amélie Maison d’Art

ARCHIK continues its exploration of architecture, art and design by inviting the Parisian gallery Amelie Maison d'Art for this new exhibition.

Since ancient times in the Near and Middle East, the clay architectural model has explored, in a more or less explicit way, the relationship to reality and the sacred. Similarly, throughout the centuries, the practice of “paper architecture”, also called “visionary architecture”, has often been used by architects and artists to experiment with utopian projects and represent imaginary spaces. These conceptual drawings and models reflect a desire to imagine the world of tomorrow in the image of man, sometimes in opposition to the rationality of technology.

Pushing back the boundaries of art, craft and architecture, the sculptures and works on paper presented in “Shaping the Imagination” return us to this practice. Anouk Albertini’s series of monolithic buildings and natural biomorphic forms announce their relationship to the body with their titles “Family” and “Couple”. In parallel, Pilar Angeloglou’s constructions, like archaeological sites, are evocative of ancient and traditional architecture. Frédéric Heurlier Cimolaï’s work on paper, evoking mass plans, is intrinsic to his formal research on the proportions and modulations of space. Finally, Delphine Brabant’s radical constructions refer us to a monumental and brutalist architecture, communicating an expressive force to modernist and utopian currents.

Exhibited in the ARCHIK HOUSE, a place of work and creation around architecture, the pieces presented in “Façonner l’imaginaire” gain in autonomy and manifest their status as both objects and carriers of ideas.

Amelie Maison d'Art

“Since the beginning, our bias has been towards contemporary abstract art, which we feel is the strongest expression of the creative freedom of each artist who must create his or her own pictorial vocabulary.

Unlike figuration, abstraction also allows for an unlimited field of interpretation where the imagination of each artist is put to the test. Never seeing the same thing twice in a painting is the strength of abstraction.

We want to bring out a new generation of artists who deserve a prominent place in the art market.

Whether they are young or already present in prestigious collections, what all our artists have in common is their talent and the potential that our committee of experts recognises in them.

Our mission is to accompany them in their work, to increase their visibility, their notoriety and their rating.”

These conceptual drawings and models bear witness to a desire to imagine the world of tomorrow in the image of man, sometimes in opposition to the rationality of technology.
