L’Estaque
Located in the extension of the historic port areas, with plunging views of the Mediterranean, Estaque is an authentic neighborhood.
Between sea and hills, it is strongly marked by a rich historical and cultural tradition. The cradle of modern painting, l’Estaque was the birthplace of Impressionism, Fauvism and Cubism. The red tiles that adorn its roofs have become the trademark of this popular neighborhood. With its village-like appearance, it is one of the most picturesque districts of Marseille.
Tranquility and charm are the main assets of this highly renowned site where life is good. There is also a neighborhood life with places to live and meet such as the Alhambra cinema. With its 1930’s façade, it is an architectural place but also a space of exchange where it is possible to take part in many activities…
The architecture reveals the social evolutions and the surprising cohabitations of this district. Rich old bastides line up next to luxurious villas and small modest houses reflecting the popular and working class side of Estaque.
