Built in 1957, the house, while appearing classic at first glance, reveals itself to be rich in architectural details, both inside and out. The southeast corner is designed in the shape of a ship's prow: the rounded wall is surrounded by large windows that flood the living room with light. This is surmounted by a pronounced curved balcony, extended by a walkway. The structural elements of the pillars supporting the whole extend into the living room to minimize the boundary between exterior and interior. Two vertical rows of oculi enliven the gable wall and create a constant interplay of light within the room's double-height space. Reaching a height of over five meters across most of its surface, the vaulted ceiling evokes the upturned hull of a boat. Like an upper deck, a beveled mezzanine overlooks the room and provides access to the exterior balcony. Maintaining the nautical theme, the railings of the walkway and the suspended staircase are made of subtly woven jute ropes. The terrazzo flooring of the L-shaped steps, the porcelain stoneware of the hall and living room floors, and the mosaic tiles in the kitchen all bear witness to the building's original construction period. A wide arched opening separates the living room from the hall and echoes the entrance door with its semicircular arch, framed by large-mesh patterned glass that allows natural light to flood in. A hallway leads to the two bedrooms on this level, each retaining its own washroom. One of them is illuminated by a unique double-glazed corner window, further enhancing the connection between the exterior and interior. Upstairs, two bedrooms share a bathroom. In the basement, a garage and a boiler/laundry room complete the practical amenities.
